A Few words about counseling

Counselling is not an easy journey to undertake. Counselling (especially long term therapy) involves revisiting and reliving past mistakes and heartaches.

Persistent and continuous denial serves only one purpose, to keep us trapped into destructive patterns of behaviours, behaviours which have been handed down from generation to generation.

Negative and abusive behaviours are not in our DNA. We do not inherit tendencies to deceive manipulate and to injure those we love the most. We are taught these harmful behaviours and we are (generally) taught them with genuine love and a true believe that we are doing no harm.

But we do. We harm ourselves, and we harm our children just as we were harmed by our parents. Unintentional harm still hurts and damages.

By taking responsibility of our own actions and weakness we give others around us, especially our children, permission to do the same. This is how generational patterns of negative behaviours and destructive patterns of abuse are finally stopped and you will see… there is a different way to be.

What can I do for you?

  • Short term therapy

Living with anxiety, panic attacks, depression etc can have a dramatic and devastating effect on our daily lives, disrupting relationships at home and at work.

If the signs are denied or ignored, they can manifest themselves into physical symptoms, damaging our physical health as well as our mental health. If not addressed, the long term effects can have serious and long lasting consequences, not just for ourselves but to those closest to us too.

Sometimes, anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be a reaction to a recent event in our lives; death, redundancy, relationship and/or family issues.

Short term therapy can assist you to discover tools and techniques that will help you to deal with your symptoms (not just for the acute period, but on a day to day basis), maintaining your emotional and mental health, relieving the physical symptoms and promoting your overall well-being.

Short term therapy will provide you with an empathic, non judgmental professional ear, someone who will hear you and be there with and for you.

Short term therapy is also a good way of ‘checking in’ with ourselves. Reviewing and reflecting on our present day lives goes a long way towards ensuring that our choices and decisions are coming from an emotionally healthy place.

Our physical well-bieng is intrinsically linked to our emotional health. Just as we keep a close eye on our physical health and symptoms, we should should give the same consideration to our emotional health.

  • Long term therapy

Some causes of anxiety, panic attacks, depression (including all the complications; addictions, PTSD, self harm, suicidal tendencies, enduring mental health issues etc), are deeply embedded in our past.

Childhood issues whether they be sexual, physical, emotional abuse, neglect, poverty, dysfunctional parenting etc, can and does have lifelong negative effects and consequences; affecting and impacting negatively not just on our lives, but also handed down to those closet to us.

Long term therapy is a journey into your life. A journey of reflection, one where you will be accompanied and supported while you challenge negative learnt patterns and destructive behaviours.
